Gang Show 2010 - Review

NORTH DEVON JOURNAL REPORT - 4th March 2010

MESMERISING, hilarious and without a doubt a truly spectacular variety show. The 2010 Gang Show marked 31 years of performances from Scouts and Guides across North Devon. Many great things had been said about the annual production and I was excited to watch this year's offering.

The lights dimmed, the curtain went up and the entire cast belted out renditions of We Will Rock You and Living On A Prayer — what a powerful way to open the evening's entertainment.

The cast of 70 energetic members treated the audience to songs, dance routines and short comedy sketches. Memorable moments were the matrix style table tennis match and an incredible performance of Michael Jackson's Thriller.

The costumes were particularly impressive and attention to detail was evident. From smart matching waistcoats and creative astronaut attire to dazzling sequined dresses that Shirley Bassey would be proud of. I was also amazed at the amount of costume changes there were. The cast had a complete transformation for almost every scene — impressive considering how large the cast was and how little time they had to change.

I really must take this opportunity to congratulate the young men who performed Beyonce's pop song Single Ladies. They certainly got the audience on their feet, cheering with the amount of enthusiasm they put into the dancing. The routine itself was perfectly choreographed and the lads certainly didn't care they were dripping in glitter and all things girly.

It was clear to see that many hours were dedicated to rehearsals, perfecting dance routines and hitting those high notes. Hard work certainly pays off.

Each and every member of the Gang Show put their heart and soul into the performance. The result? A spectacular evening full of the feel good factor.

Gang Show joy
THIS is an open letter of congratulations to all those who created, rehearsed, dressed, produced, directed and performed the excellent Gang Show production last week.
The standard of on-stage discipline was outstanding and would have been welcomed by many a professional company, I am sure. Synchronisation was particularly noteworthy. Entrances and exits of a large cast in a theatre totally lacking in off-stage space was admirable.
Yes of course there were inevitably a few very minor problems, and regardless of there being a partisan audience, performers were not phased and all recovered well.
Several individual numbers were performed to a standard many established choirs would have been proud of.
I had missed the previous 30 productions, I shall take care not to miss the next! Very well done everyone.
