IN this, their 30th anniversary year, performers from local Scout and Guide groups, took to the stage in an evening packed with song, dance, humour and celebration. Bethany Dickerson, from First Sticklepath Guides, wrote this report for What's On: The North Devon Gang Show is always full of surprises, and the 30th anniversary was no different. Chairman, Kay Ford, who has been involved in the show for 18 years, described the cast of adults and children from the Scouts and Guides Association as the "best and most talented cast ever." Our regular drummer Tom Smyth, fell ill at the last moment and, after appealing for a new drummer, Phil Dymond stepped in and completed our music team. Congratulations must also go to Martin Bray producer, Nichola Ford co-producer and choreographer, and Tom Pearce assistant choreographer, who together made the show a huge success. Colourful skirts billowed on the older cast members in the scene Everybody's Groovin' which was filled with songs from the hit West End musical Hairspray. Above and Below was opened with a breathtaking duet, and saw angels and devils dancing to songs such as Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel and Disco Inferno. The younger cast members got together in Gallant and Bold which was sponsored by the Round Table, and made the perfect knights and princesses. An audience member described the Gang Show as: "Way beyond what I was expecting, brilliant." Her view was shared by another theatre goer, Jan Miller, who said: "It was a fantastic performance, we all left the theatre on a high."Several cast members have been involved in Gang Show for a number of years and it's great to see the many anniversaries go by, and see the show grow from strength to strength. We hope that North Devon Gang Show 2010 will be an even bigger hit than this year, with more people joining us all on the crest of a wave!
